Pupils from Bierton School and Haddenham St Mary’s joined forces this week to take part in a special sports day, promoting a range of keep-fit activities.

The event, organised by 3d Clubs’ Reflexions Health and Leisure, saw primary school pupils from Haddenham St Mary’s travelling to Bierton School to take part in a number of sports and games. Children enjoyed a range of 15-minute sessions, which included ball games, martial arts, gymnastics, body combat, Zumba and even space hopper racing.

Lou Harrison, Club Manager at Reflexions, has close links within the two schools, having known Haddenham’s head teacher for years, while her daughter attends Bierton. Speaking of the club’s positive impact within local schools, she said: “We like to give back to the community and promote the value of healthy lifestyles to young people.”

Alongside staff from Reflexions, Aylesbury United and Aylesbury Tennis Club helped to co-ordinate football and tennis sessions, whilst gymnastics and martial arts lessons were provided by Ignite Gymnastics and Matt Fiddes Martial Arts. Teachers and pupils braved the heat thanks to bottles of water provided by Angel Springs.

With issues such as body confidence and childhood obesity so prominent in the media at the moment, Harrison noted that the day was instrumental in getting young people more involved in health and fitness. She said: “It was aimed at getting all the kids active in some kind of sport, particularly those who might not belong to any of the clubs or who lack confidence. The teachers took part too!”

The sports day was organised by Reflexions Health and Leisure, part of the 3d Leisure private health club team.
