July Newsletter 2026

Jul 16, 2026News, 3d leisure

As a health and wellbeing management partner, we operate within four key sectors: hospitality, workplace wellbeing, residential, and education. While many of the services we offer are transferable across these different sectors, this does mean some of the information within our newsletter will not be relevant to all clients. Still, we hope there is something for everyone.

The last few months have certainly kept us busy. Alongside the day to day management of our sites, we’ve been working hard to enhance and evolve the services we offer. Following our bi annual strategy meeting in April, we’re excited to introduce our Innovation Team. Their role is to look across the whole business for new ideas, initiatives, and products that will help us keep improving and stay ahead in a competitive market.

June and July are always challenging trading months for fitness facilities, but more so this year with the recent heat waves and World Cup distractions meaning that new member sales and attrition are as challenging. We are focusing our efforts on additional engagement and sales activity to try and minimise any net losses across the clubs.

We very much value every individual client, and we would like to thank you for your continued support.

– Paul Ramsay, Managing Director

Ukactive State of the Industry Report

Our MD, Paul Ramsay, is very involved with UKactive and currently sits on their Operator Council Board. As a result of this relationship, we have been providing quarterly key performance indicator information for all commercial clubs for the last three years. It was therefore great to see the latest UK Health & Fitness Market Report published in March with analysis from Grant Thornton. A standout point from the report was that 18% (up from 16.9% last year) of the UK population is now members of a fitness facility, and this figure continues to grow! If anyone would like a copy of the full report, please email Molly at office@3dleisure.com

Gender Pay Gap

As part of our commitment to transparency and fairness, we’ve published our annual Gender Pay Gap data, which looks at the average pay difference between men and women across the company. The key findings this year show that while the mean pay gap has increased slightly to 9.3%, reflecting an ongoing presence of gender imbalances in certain senior or higher-paid roles, an area we continue to focus on improving, the median pay gap has improved significantly, now standing at just 0.05%.

This is a positive sign that for many employees, regardless of gender, pay equality is present, especially in the middle of the pay range. We’re also seeing a positive movement in gender representation, particularly in the higher pay quartiles where females are taking on senior positions within the business – and we remain committed to further equal gender representation at all levels of the company!

Technogym Village

A group from 3d recently had the privilege of visiting the Technogym Village, the global headquarters of Technogym in Cesena, Italy.
As a business committed to delivering innovative and future-focused wellbeing solutions, we must stay at the forefront of emerging fitness technology and industry trends. Working closely with partners such as Technogym enables us to continually enhance the experiences we create for our clients and their members.

The visit brought together colleagues from across the business, including our Operations Director, Regional Manager, members of the Business Development Team and Corporate Gym Managers from UK and the Netherlands. We believe it is important that team members at all levels are involved in these opportunities, ensuring they have first-hand knowledge of the latest innovations, a deep understanding of the Technogym product ecosystem and insight into how technology is shaping the future of fitness and wellbeing.

During the visit, we explored Technogym’s extensive product range, experienced the equipment first hand and gained a behind-the-scenes understanding of how products are designed, engineered, tested and continually refined. We also learned more about the history, vision and values that have established Technogym as one of the world’s leading wellness brands.

These experiences are invaluable in helping our teams provide informed advice to clients, develop innovative facility solutions and ensure we continue to deliver best-in-class wellbeing environments across our portfolio.

A huge thank you to Kerrie Donaghy and the entire Technogym team for their hospitality, expertise and warm welcome throughout our visit — including a fantastic workout session that put the equipment to the test!

A truly insightful and inspiring experience that reinforces the importance of collaboration, innovation and continuous learning within our industry.

Technogym Moves Initiative

1.3 million MOVEs. 666 meals donated. One collective effort.

The results speak for themselves:

  • 1,344,785 MOVEs

Training Division

We recently announced the launch of our dedicated Training Division, reinforcing the company’s commitment to excellence, professional development, and industry-leading standards across all of our sites.

The division will be led by Gethin Griffiths, National Training Manager, who brings extensive expertise and experience in the delivery of vocational and operational training programmes. Under his guidance, the training division will provide a comprehensive portfolio of accredited and industry-recognised courses, including Lifeguard Qualifications, Pool Responder Training, First Aid Programmes, and Pool Plant Operations.

This strategic investment reflects 3d leisure’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of highly skilled professionals within our clubs, enhancing operational excellence and promoting the highest standards of safety and service delivery.

We will provide courses around the UK at discounted rates for our partners.

Meet our team

There are a number of people working behind the scenes that don’t always meet our clients. We would like to start introducing them to you…

Name: Paul Dickinson

Position: Operations Director – South

How long have you worked for 3d? 23 years

Tell us about your career with 3d to date? I started with 3d leisure as a Club manager when I moved to Bournemouth to operate Heatlhstyles. I was there for approximately 18 months when an opportunity in a regional role became available. I did struggle to explain the region to people as it included 8 sites in the south and 6 in the north of Scotland!

What does your current role involve? Currently I am the Operations Director in the South of the UK and I have 12 sites I look after directly as well as 4 regional managers that have their own clubs we support as part of a team. Day to day the role can vary quite a lot (which I like) meaning I can be dealing with a health and safety issue one day and then relaying rubber matting at a new corporate site the next.

What do you like best about the company/role? The people is the key thing I like most about my role. We have a fantastic team of regional managers, support staff, club managers and fitness instructors. I also enjoy building the business to be as successful as it possibly can be.

And the least? Getting stuck in traffic or on a delayed train!

Tell us something about yourself we wouldn’t know? I am/was a keen sportsman growing up and my main sport I enjoyed playing was basketball. Even though I am not particularly tall I was a half decent shot and once got 100 shots in a row in competition (and won!)

What do you do in your spare time? I enjoy spending time with my wife and 2 teenage children, playing golf and running.

FAVOURITE…

  • Team: QPR
  • Colour: Blue
  • Drink: Mineral water (of course)
  • Food: Vindaloo Curry
  • Celebrity: Michael Jordan or Rory Mcllroy
  • Place: Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight

Name: Tatum Le Patourel

Position: Studio Manager at Satzuma

How long have you worked for 3d? 9 years

Tell us about your career with 3d to date? I started as maternity cover as a designer, I was then taken on full-time for 3 years. After a couple of years away working at another design agency, I was lured back in 2020 as Studio Manager.

What does your current role involve? What doesn’t it involve?! As studio manager I deal with the whole process, from putting together quotes, designing, proofing, sending to print and invoices, as well as managing my team which has now grown to 4.

What do you like best about the company/role? I love working in Peel House, the group of people who work here are so lovely, and we do have a laugh.
And the least? The lack of content I get provided for designs can be frustrating, but the worst is the urgency of a lot of jobs, ‘I need this ASAP’, which can make it hard when there are other projects to juggle to a tight deadline.

Tell us something about yourself we wouldn’t know? I have competed in a couple of novice strongwoman competitions and came 2nd in the last one I took part in. I’ve now switched to trying to master Calisthenics

What do you do in your spare time? I like to keep myself active, so my evenings are taken up with netball, gym, pole dancing, long walks and then wild swimming on the weekends if I’m not away visiting family or friends.

FAVOURITE…

  • Team: Spurs
  • Colour: Green
  • Drink: Gin & Tonic
  • Food: Pasta
  • Celebrity: Honestly don’t have one!
  • Place: Any bay (there are no beaches! All are ‘bays’) in Guernsey

DRIVING SALES

The summer marketing campaign is now underway and hopefully driving lots of enquiries into the clubs. With the digital side we have done less Google Ads spend for this campaign but instead ramped up the social media paid campaigns – we will then revert more budget to Google for the September campaign.
