What a gym design project covers

3d leisure designs commercial gyms, spas and leisure facilities for employers, hotels, property developers and independent operators. We size the space, specify the equipment and plan how the facility will run once it opens.

Most projects begin with a feasibility study. We model likely usage, benchmark against comparable sites and set a capital budget before any layout is drawn. The design that follows is built around those numbers rather than around a floor plan.

The same team goes on to run facilities like these every day, across workplace, hospitality, residential and school. Design decisions get tested against how the space will actually be staffed and used.

What we design

A commercial gym design project can start from an empty shell, from a floor plate that has been earmarked but not drawn, or from a tired facility that needs replanning. The scope is set around where you are starting from.

  • Commercial gym design and equipment specification
  • Gym fit-out, from space planning through to handover
  • Corporate gym design for employers, planned around shared building services and a whole workforce. See workplace wellbeing.
  • Spa design, treatment room planning and thermal suites. See hotel spas.
  • School and community sports facility design. See school facility hire.
  • Residential amenity and private gym design. See residential amenity management.

Gym fit-out follows the design. We specify the equipment, manage procurement and installation, and hand over a facility that is ready to open rather than one that still needs commissioning.

Most gym design companies stop at handover. We do not have to. The team that draws the layout is the team that goes on to run facilities like it, so a commercial gym design gets tested against how it will actually be staffed, cleaned, programmed and paid for.

Frequently asked questions

Cost depends on the size of the space, the equipment specification and how much building work is involved. A feasibility study produces a costed concept and a realistic budget before you commit to a design. That is usually the cheapest way to find out what a project will actually cost.

Gym design covers the concept, the layout, the equipment specification and how the space will be used. Gym fit-out is the physical work that follows: building, services, flooring, installation and handover. We take on either, or both.

Yes. Corporate gym design carries constraints a public gym does not. Shared building services, security and access, limited floor plates, and a facility that serves a whole workforce rather than a paying membership. We plan for those from the start. See workplace wellbeing.

Yes. We design and manage hotel spas, thermal suites and treatment areas. The spa gets planned around how it will be staffed and how it will earn, not only around how it looks.

You can hand it over to us if you want to. A number of clients bring us in to design a facility and keep us on to operate it. We employ our instructors and managers directly rather than using self-employed contractors.
