Corporate Fitness Club
We worked with the client 2 years prior to the opening of the facility which includes a 30 station gym, studio, solarium, two treatment rooms and changing facilities. The facility is open to all head office staff who are charged approximately £20 per month. After a 3 month presale we opened the facility with 75% of the target membership base achieved.
We achieved membership target 3 months after opening and have maintained membership at those levels (25% of the workforce) for 7 years since. The club continues to make an annual profit which is invested back into the facility to replace gym equipment etc. For the client we also negotiated discounts at commercial clubs nationwide which allows all the clients 400,000 employees access to discounted club membership within 10 miles of their place of work.
Hotel Club - 450m2
We took over the management of this hotel based club after membership levels had dropped resulting in an annual loss of £50k. Through our management involvement and the implementation of our Quality Management Systems we have increased membership by 100% in year 1 and got the club back to break even within 9 months. In the 5 years since we started, the club has consistently achieved profits year on year.
Standalone Health Club - 2000m2
This standalone health club had just posted an annual loss of £390k when we took over the management. Without capital investment we increased membership by 40% and got the club back up to break even within 18 months. The club is now forecast to achieve a profit less than 2 years after we started.
After managing a 2 year design and build project, we opened a full service hotel spa in Ireland. The facility is split into 2 seperate areas with a health club facilities including a gym, pool, sauna and steam available to the members. The spa membership provided access to the health club facilities and also includes access to thermal suites, an outdoor hot tub, hydrotheraphy pool and 14 treatment rooms.
The health club opened with 500 members and reached capacity (1200) within 6 months of opening. The spa was quickly established as a key destination and day spa in the area generating in excess of £20k per week in treatment revenue alone. The hotel increased occcupancy by 25% at weekend through marketing the 2 facilties alongside each other.
Chessgrove Day Spa
A conversion of old farm buildings Alistair worked with the architect and spa team to design the facility. In the process formulating the business plan and sales forecast for the funding partners including DEFRA a government agency providing grant aid. I help with the specification and introduction of all aspects of the spa. The staff selection was a key function with job specification, recruitment advertising, trade tests and interviewing. On-going support and business mentoring has been a key part of the current services reviewing the business against plan and assisting in the creation of marketing calendar, press and promotions.
Royal Yacht Hotel (Spa Sirene)
Following a business networking seminar Alistair was the natural first choice for the owners and developers of a Hotel spa project in Jersey. This project funded by private investors was part of a five star multi million pound project. From the outset the architects who had not had much spa/leisure experience required assistance in the re design of the facility. Working within the construction and space planning constraints we have created a spa and leisure offering which is recognised as one of the UK’s leading destination spas. All aspects of the business services offered were adopted by this business. On-going business mentoring has been a key part of the service contract to help deliver the sales targets and service standards across the spa and leisure business.
Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa
A construction group purchased a golf complex and developed a prestigious resort hotel as part of the overall scheme the addition of a spa and leisure business was added. Initially Alistair provided technical appraisal of the spa and leisure design directing the architect and interiors team to create a scheme which provided the right environment for a spa and leisure club to integrate into the hotel and golf business. During the project Alistair provided significant savings across all aspects of the project and the spa open on time and to budget.. Business health checks are provided quarterly and annually.
